AUA and Watson Burton LLP are delighted to announce a partnership and sponsorship agreement. The three-year contract, from May 2006, means that Newcastle and Leeds-based law firm Watson Burton will be, along with the Guardian, the principal sponsor of the AUA.
The sponsorship brings together the leading organisation in the higher education sector for university professionals with a law firm which is “arguably second to none in the region for expertise in the education (especially higher education) sector” according to national law directory Legal 500.
The partnership with AUA strengthens Watson Burton’s plans to cement its links with British universities. The practice is acting for a growing number of universities and colleges across the country.
Dr John Hogan, Registrar of Newcastle University and Treasurer of the AUA said: “We welcome the sponsorship from Watson Burton. Longer-term partnerships such as this are valuable because we can develop our relationship productively over time. We already know and respect John McMullen, who is a regular speaker at and author for AUA events and publications, and appreciate the active role he has played in securing this partnership between Watson Burton and AUA.”
Dr John McMullen, Head of Employment and Education at Watson Burton said: “We are delighted to forge a relationship with AUA which will benefit both organisations. The arrangement underpins our commitment to the higher education sector. We are a law firm that not only provides excellent, pragmatic legal advice but one that believes in committing to and understanding the sector in which we supply our services. Our firmwide Education team will be working closely with AUA over the next few years.”
