Special Interest Groups

AUA Special Interest Groups allow members with similar interests to share good practice and develop their understanding of specific areas of HE policy and practice.

Welcome to the new AUA Special Interest Group resource area. We’ve redesigned the way information is accessed to make it easier for members and other visitors to find the resources they need.

There are currently groups for:

  • Departmental Administrators
  • Managing Change in Higher Education
  • Partnerships
  • Academic Quality and Enhancement Practitioners
  • Space Management
  • International Higher Education

Some of these groups now have their own wiki.

Use the left hand links to find out more about each group. You can also find out how Special Interest Groups work, and information about setting up new groups under the 'about' section.

SIG NEWS:

IHESIG Steering Committee
The International Higher Education Special Interest Group (IHESIG) is the main focus for the organisation and support of AUA’s already considerable range of international activities. These activities including providing support for AUA members to travel internationally and organising events to raise awareness of international perspectives on higher education within the AUA membership more generally.

Following the launch of the IHESIG, applications are invited from those wishing to become more involved by joining the Steering Group in one of the following roles:

1. European Development Co-ordinator
The European Development Officer leads on issues related to developing AUA partnerships in Europe including developments related to the Bologna process.

2. Travel Award Co-ordinator
The Travel Award Co-ordinator manages the advertisement for and selection of recipients of travel awards and ensures that reports are received from recipients and that findings are disseminated.

3. International Association Link Co-ordinator
The International Association Link Co-ordinator manages the AUA’s international links with equivalent organisations and ensures that all the International Association Links in the UK are active and submit an annual report for Newslink on their partner association.

The IHESIG Steering Committee works closely together; existing members of the Steering Committee include the Convener, Matthew Andrews, Academic Registrar at Oxford Brookes University (Matthew is also the member of the Board of Trustees with responsibility for international matters) and the Executive Secretary, Sally McKinley, Administrative Officer (Programme Quality & Teaching Partnerships) at Loughborough University. Members of the Steering Group, with the addition of a representative(s) from the AHUA, form the Selection Committee for the approval of recipients of travel awards, the short-listing of study tour applicants and the annual Study Tour Co-ordinator.

If you would to discuss the new roles in more detail please contact Matthew Andrews, on mandrews@brookes or 01865 483128.

Application may be made in writing by CV and a covering letter. The covering letter should focus on your skills and experience for the post for which you’re applying and explain what you hope to bring to the work of the IHESIG. The covering letter should be no more than two sides of A4 and must state clearly which role(s) you are applying for. Applications must be sent to the AUA National Office on aua@manchester.ac.uk and must be received no later than 5pm on Friday 19 March 2010.
