Call for session proposals

A fixture of the higher education calendar for more than 40 years, the AUA Annual Conference and Exhibition is the largest of its kind in the UK.  Visiting the beautiful city of Edinburgh for the first time in its current format, the 2013 AUA Annual Conference and Exhibition promises to be bigger and better than ever. The aim of the conference is to promote excellence in higher education management through personal and professional development.  To achieve this, the programme draws together a wide range of sessions which enable participants to:

  • enhance their knowledge and understanding of the sector
  • explore new concepts and ideas in HE management and administration
  • share good practice
  • develop new skills

Themes

For 2013, we invite papers which align to the following strands:

  • Self (e.g. skills, professional behaviours, wellbeing)
  • Team (e.g. working with others, management, cultural change)
  • Institution (e.g. policy and strategy, current issues and challenges, specialisms)
  • Sector (e.g. international, national policies, commercial, CPD Framework)

AUA CPD Framework Professional Behaviours

The AUA Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Framework builds on best practice in the HE sector and elsewhere, to provide a clear steer on key and valued behaviours linked to the AUA’s Values statement.  There are nine behavioural groups within the CPD Framework:

  • Achieving results
  • Managing self and personal skills
  • Delivering excellent service
  • Finding innovative solutions
  • Embracing change
  • Using resources
  • Providing direction
  • Developing self and others
  • Working with people

Presenters are required to indicate which three behaviours their session most closely aligns to.  Further information on the AUA CPD Framework can be found at www.aua.ac.uk with case studies and resources at http://cpdframework.aua.ac.uk

Submitting a session proposal

The deadline for session proposals has now closed.

Why not consider preparing a session to submit to our 2014 Conference? Submissions for 2014 will be open in July 2013.

To submit a session proposal please complete the following form: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/QHP29T6 .

The deadline to submit your session proposals has been extended to 7 October 2012.

What happens next?

Within 10 days of submitting your session proposal, you will receive an acknowledgement email.  If you do not receive one, please call 0161 275 2063.

All sessions are moderated by a team appointed by the AUA Board of Trustees to ensure the development of a balanced programme of sessions.  Factors which the team will consider include: demand; professional development needs; topicality; level of intellect and the diversity of AUA membership.  Unfortunately, it is not possible to include all proposed sessions in the programme.

Presenters of accepted proposals will be informed by email by 31 October 2012.  Once the programme has been finalised we will contact you again to confirm the date and time of your session.

Please note that accepted presenters will be required to register as paying delegates of the Conference and will be offered a 15% speaker discount in recognition of their contribution to the programme.

If your session is accepted, the information you provide on the form may be used for marketing purposes and will be published in the conference programme and on the AUA website to enable participants to build their personal conference programme.  Moderators will use your submission to assess the suitability of your session for inclusion in the conference programme.  Please make sure that you provide enough information to enable moderators and participants to choose effectively.

Please do not complete the online proposal submission until you have all the necessary information. For more information on how to submit a session proposal and to see the questions you will be asked, please see the Further Information section below.
