The Cork Dental School & Hospital shares a campus with Cork University Hospital and has 85 individual dental units as well as laboratory, operating, teaching and research facilities. Approximately 260 undergraduate students use the Dental School, which provides programmes in dentistry, dental hygiene and dental nursing. There is a postgraduate training programme, and research is undertaken by approximately 20 PhD students. Expenditure in the academic year 2008 – 2009 was €11.9m. The Dental School is funded by both the Department of Health and the University. Approximately 130 staff are employed in the Dental School and there are over 55,000 patient visits annually.
Applications are now invited for the permanent whole-time post of Manager of the Cork Dental School & Hospital. The job holder will support the Head of School & Hospital in strategic management and planning, and act as a member of the Dental Executive Committee. The successful candidate will liaise with the Department of Human Resources, the Finance Office and the College of Medicine and Health to ensure compliance with all University policies. He/she will co-ordinate the administration and organisation of all administrative and support functions of the Cork Dental School & Hospital.
The ideal candidate will be a graduate and/or have a relevant professional qualification. He/she will have a proven ability through extensive administrative, budgetary planning, financial control and management experience of an appropriate nature. A knowledge of and experience in a University or another Higher Education Institute and/or Health Service establishment for more than 5 years is diserable.

In this challenging management role, you’ll be responsible for developing and managing the faculty and student administration for Cranfield Defence and Security, the School of Cranfield University located at the Defence Academy, Shrivenham. From delegate enquiries, through course scheduling, financial analysis and maintenance of student records, you will be responsible for providing an efficient and effective service for all student related activity towards postgraduate awards, modular programmes and professional short courses.
You’ll also be expected to adopt an approach of continuous improvement through the use of management information systems, to support the school senior management team to monitor the course portfolio and return on investment. International Higher Education Special Interest Group Steering Committee
The International Higher Education Special Interest Group (IHESIG) is the main focus for the organisation and support of AUA’s already considerable range of international activities. These activities including providing support for AUA members to travel internationally and organising events to raise awareness of international perspectives on higher education within the AUA membership more generally. A full description of the IHESIG is attached.
Following the launch of the IHESIG, applications are invited from those wishing to become more involved by joining the Steering Group in one of the following roles:
1. European Development Co-ordinator
The European Development Officer leads on issues related to developing AUA partnerships in Europe including developments related to the Bologna process.
2. Travel Award Co-ordinator
The Travel Award Co-ordinator manages the advertisement for and selection of recipients of travel awards and ensures that reports are received from recipients and that findings are disseminated.
3. International Association Link Co-ordinator
The International Association Link Co-ordinator manages the AUA’s international links with equivalent organisations and ensures that all the International Association Links in the UK are active and submit an annual report for Newslink on their partner association.
The IHESIG Steering Committee works closely together; existing members of the Steering Committee include the Convener, Matthew Andrews, Academic Registrar at Oxford Brookes University (Matthew is also the member of the Board of Trustees with responsibility for international matters) and the Executive Secretary, Sally McKinley, Administrative Officer (Programme Quality & Teaching Partnerships) at Loughborough University. Members of the Steering Group, with the addition of a representative(s) from the AHUA, form the Selection Committee for the approval of recipients of travel awards, the short-listing of study tour applicants and the annual Study Tour Co-ordinator.

Brazil Study Tour Co-ordinator
The next in the series of highly successful AUA Study Tours will go to Brazil sometime in the 2010/11 academic year and applicants are now invited for the role of Study Tour Co-ordinator. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to help lead and develop this exciting tour to Brazil. In exchange for organising the tour, all the costs of the Study Tour Co-ordinator’s involvement with the tour will be covered by the AUA.
A full description of the role is attached but, in brief, the co-ordinator has the opportunity to develop the overall programme for the study tour in 2010/11, including:
• Developing the study tour’s themes.
• Recruitment of study tour participants.
• Developing and arranging the tour programme.
• Providing day-to-day co-ordination of the tour in Brazil.
• Co-ordinating the dissemination of findings.
The co-ordinator will be assisted by the AUA National Office in these responsibilities.
