The AUA Planning Forum is designed to address the current issues faced by those responsible for, or with an interest in, Strategic Planning in Higher Education.
This year the forum focused on ‘The Challenge of Sustainability’ specifically it looked at ways to support and develop the sustainability of HE Institutions as well as considering a range of approaches and responses to the current economic climate.
The conference opened with an overview of challenges for the HE sector, with presentations from;
Paul Clarke - Director Policy Development, UUK
Mark Batho - Chief Executive, Scottish Funding Council
Prof Glynis Breakwell - Vice Chancellor, University of Bath
Delegates then had the opportunity to explore the development of sustainability further, both from a financial and environmental perspective.
The day ended with a Conference dinner and a chance for participants to network
On the second day Bob Rabone - Director of Finance, University of Sheffield, Andrew Hartley - Commercial Director, Business
Development Unit, University of Derby explored further some of the key financial implications faced by institutions and potential
responses to funding cuts. Liz Bromley, Director of Student Life, University of Salford, held a session on Employability.
The conference closed with a panel discussion including Pam Tatlow - Chief Executive, Million+, Paul Marshall - Chief Executive, 94 Group and Ruth Farrell - Chair, Guild HE. The panel looked at the differentiated approaches across the sector in responding to the significant challenges in Higher Education today.
This successful event held at the Scarman Centre in Warwick fro m12-13 November was enjoyed by over 90 delegates. Watch this space for feedback from the day!
