The future of higher education
11-12 March 2010
America Square Conference Centre, London

An outward-looking forward-thinking summit stimulating debate and shaping thinking on rising to the challenges facing higher education.

The combination of the fiscal crisis and imminent reductions in public service budgets coupled with significant changes in the demands faced by institutions means that the way forward for higher education has become increasingly contested.

This year’s event returns with a new format and new outlook. The future of higher education presents an excellent opportunity to bring senior leaders together to explore the sector’s future shape and structure. The event will be broad-reaching in its scope and, among other pertinent themes, it will dissect key debates around the role of higher education in our society, funding strategies, social mobility and means for enabling students to make more informed decisions.

Bringing together higher education leaders for a series of debates, we will explore future scenarios for the shape and structure of the sector. Led by key stakeholders and shaped by expert analysis the debates will be supplemented with in-depth panel discussion, focused breakout sessions and insightful keynotes. Key thinkers and influencers include:

  • Lord Browne, chair, Review of Higher Education Funding and Student Finance
  • David Willetts MP, shadow secretary of state for universities
  • Sam Laidlaw, CEO, Centrica, and chair, CBI higher education taskforce
  • Wes Streeting, president, NUS
  • Prof Donald Heller, director, Center for the Study of Higher Education, Pennsylvania State University
