Adaptive capacity for planners:
Equipping ourselves for a new higher education world
The UK higher education paradigm is in flux. Factors such as the introduction of new tuition fee regulations, heightened student expectations, changing patterns of global demand for higher education, new information and communications technologies, and potential reforms to university governance have made the planning environment highly volatile.
University planners work at the interface of academic and financial imperatives, and so should be ideally placed to identify, evaluate and address uncertainty. However, many planners will not have prior experience of working in a period of such profound instability.
Are your skills, knowledge and experiences relevant to the demands of a new higher education world? What do can you do to equip yourself and your university plan intelligently and effectively when so much is unknown? The programme for the 2012 National Planners Forum is designed to help you explore these questions through dialogue with experts, sector leaders and colleagues. Themes covered include:
- Polymath or specialist? Exploring how planners may have to evolve – with input from key leaders
- Partners, regulators, bureaucrats? The changing role of the major HE agencies - speakers from HESA, UCAS and SLC
- Unique selling points – exploring the planners’ link with marketing, and promoting institutional distinctiveness
- Crystal ball – scenario planning for UK HE
- Planning for institutional sustainability
A mixture of plenaries, panels and break out groups ensure plenty of opportunity for networking and sharing ideas – most of all, at our drinks reception and conference dinner.
