Job description:
The Fulbright Commission is looking for an enthusiastic individual to deliver and enhance our alumni activities, both in the UK and US. Beginning in March 2012, the Commission will handle the administration of the British Fulbright Scholars Association (BFSA) a registered charity that shares office space with the Commission. A new position, being offered initially on a 3-days-per-week basis but with the possibility of being upgraded to full time within the next twelve months, is being created and we are keen to have someone in post as soon as possible.
SUMMARY: You will work closely with the Fulbright Director, Executive Director and BFSA Committee to provide excellent alumni services. You will manage the planning, implementation and delivery of a strategic programme of alumni communications and events with a view to cultivating a corps of fundraising volunteers and promoters (from amongst alumni and beyond). A background in CRM or customer loyalty is desirable, as you will need to clearly understand the aims of alumni engagement activities and how to improve alumni experience. Equally important, your work will help the Commission demonstrate impact to government, university and other sponsors.
You will join a team of four and support their work in promoting Fulbright exchanges. A confident, dynamic and effective communicator skilled in all aspects of impactful marketing, you will have highly-developed writing skills and experience of producing quality publications in print and online.
Administrative role:
- Managing databases and mailings,
- Answering telephone/email enquiries,
- Administering the Alumni Mentoring Programme,
- Acting as a point of contact for BFSA committee members and alumni, and
- Liaising between Commission and the BFSA.
Additional tasks and projects:
- Regular newsletters,
- Maintaining online and social media presence,
- Organising events,
- Keeping in close contact with the US-based alumni groups, and
- Liaising with universities and other stakeholders.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Legal right to work in the UK (required)
- Advanced organisational skills (required)
- Experience with databases - Microsoft Access or SQL (required)
- Excellent communication skills, including giving presentations, as well as customer relations skills (required)
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information (required)
- Ability to work well with people at all levels, including Ambassadors, Vice-Chancellors, politicians and business leaders but also students and their families (required)
- Undergraduate degree (required), postgraduate degree (preferred)
- Strong interest in international education and cultural exchange (preferred)
- Experience working with alumni and event planning (preferred)
- Experience with fundraising/development initiatives (preferred)
- Knowledge of US and UK education systems (preferred)
- Ability to learn quickly, personal initiative, motivation (preferred)
